A Northern California man is facing arson charges after a fire destroyed several structures in Colusa County this week, authorities said.

Cal Fire, the state's fire agency, said Karl Kristofors was arrested after a burn pit fire spread on Thursday. The fire happened around 3:49 p.m. near the 200 block of Market Street in Stonyford, which is about a 55-mile drive northwest of Colusa.

Kristofors had been burning trash in a burn pit when the fire erupted, authorities said.

A mobile home and shed were destroyed, and another residence and shed were severely damaged by the fire, authorities said.

Cal Fire crews said the fire was contained and it did not spread to nearby vegetation.
